Tauck made the trip extra special. The tours were wonderful; the tour guides on the boat were very knowledgeable and personal, they made sure you had a very memorable tour, and the entertainment and meals were special to the stops we made. Everything on the boat was top notch. Could not be happier about the trip!

First time with Tauck. Could not be happier. Unfortunately, this set the bar so high we may not be able to top it. The service was impeccable. Low water forced a ship swap at Nuremberg. It went off without a hitch. All of our personnel preferences transferred with us. Excelling at the small details is what brings you back!

Most Memorable Moment:

This moment has to be dinner at the palace in Vienna, complete with music, ballet, and opera performances throughout the meal. This certainly sets Tauck apart.

This was our first experience with Tauck and definitely not our last. Beginning with the beauty of Budapest on the MS Treasures and ending in bustling Amsterdam on the MS Esprit we experienced the amazing service of 2 separate crews without missing a beat. It speaks volumes about Tauck's experience and attention to detail that we managed the switch.

Most Memorable Moment:

Hard to pick just one. The dinner at Palais Ferstel in Vienna while listening to world class opera singers was incredible. Riding the gondola to the Niederwald Monument above Rudesheim was exhilarating. Topped off with 2 amazing violinists performing for us on the last night in the Panorama Lounge! Do I really have to make a choice?

Outstanding trip. Crew and Tauck guides were first rate. The refurbished ship with the 96 person capacity is a great improvement over the previous larger capacity vessel. Shore excursions were very good and informative; our "cruise day" on the river was spectacular with multiple castles and villages on each side of the river.

Most Memorable Moment:

Nuremberg with the remains of the Zeppelin Field and museum. Budapest at night from the river. Vienna with the summer palace and the outstanding evening dinner at the palace.

Tauck is the best. We all know that! That's why we repeatedly book trips with this Company. However, I must report that the Maitre D on the MS Treasures (August, 2018) was surly, argumentative and so down-right rude to my spouse and me on the third night of this cruise that we just got up and walked out of the restaurant in the middle of the meal.

Most Memorable Moment:

Getting over our most unpleasant experience with the Treasures' Maitre D when we were moved to the MS Esprit.

TAUCK RESPONSE

I am sorry you had a poor experience with the Maitre D on the ms Treasures. I have forwarded this comment on to our Operations team so they can make sure this does not happen again.

Our first river cruise--it was wonderful. The ship was super, the crew incredibly efficient and friendly, and the tour guides wonderful! We saw so much and had a great time. Even having to change ships because of the low water on the Danube was handled as well as could be expected, unpleasant as it was. A first class trip, as always with Tauck.

Most Memorable Moment:

Too many to choose. Loved Passau with the beautiful church and impressive organ concert. Nuremberg was informative and sobering. The castles along the river were beautiful, Budapest at night from the river was fabulous, and the dinner in Vienna was the icing on the cake--we felt like royalty!

Thank you Tauck for another memorable trip!

Most Memorable Moment:

Every moment was a memorable one ——— the gala dinner at the Palace Ferstel in Vienna, visits to the Abbey in Melk, various tours in Bamberg , Rothenburg, the amazing Musikkabinnet in Rudesheim are some of the visits that stand out. Europe in a drought summer 2018. River levels five-feet low. Hign temperatures 80 to 90F. Tauck was prepared with identical ships on both sides of the shallows near Nuremberg. Switched ships, and did Bratislava and Budapest by bus. Great trip, beautiful scenery, excellent cruise and tour directors, who were honest and caring as well as prepared.

Most Memorable Moment:

Cruising down the Rhine with castles and vineyards. Locally guided tours were interesting and informative but could have been longer. Everyone was on time. Concise and complete program issued the night before each day. Enjoyed our fellow travelers and Tauck staff. Knew we had a transfer to airport, but pleased with escort through Budapest airport.

Most Memorable Moment:

The most significant moments were the dinner and Concert at Palais Ferstel in Vienna. Other significant moments were the visit to the Melk Abbey and St. Peter’s Cathedral in Regensburg. Equally memorable was the Siegfried’s Musikkabinet and Gondola ride in Rudesheim. Visit to Cologne Cathedral and Rijksmussum in Amsterdam were exhilarating.

The service at Tauck was the best we ever experienced. The Tauck cruise personal and staff of the Ms Espirit provided a very welcome atmosphere. The first day the staff called us by name and knew our preferences for all of our dinners. The tours were amazing and the guides were very informative and provided personal input.

Most Memorable Moment:

Our favorite moment was the free time in Vilshofen, Germany where we watched the local beer fiesta parade in town. Our cruise director prepared an impromptu tour of the town due to an alternative docking location because of river levels. Our local guide provided a very professional and personable tour of this small town.

We were overwhelmed from the start with the grand hotel alongside the Amstel River, with its history, sweeping 19th century staircases, chandeliers and marble floors. The MS Esprit was just as elegant with a cosy cabin suite. Staff made us feel valued as individually prioritised guests. Varied and informative interseting programme provided.

Most Memorable Moment:

The World War II tour in Nurenburg stood out for the tradegy that it has brought to the lives of millions of families and generations. The memorial building created an environment of reflection on the cruelty that fellow humans can impact on others. The Nurenburg Court Trials helped to provide a satisfaction of justice.

Tauck has not yet learned to control weather conditions!! I don't know why they control all other facets of a great trip. Our Riverboat cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam was interrupted by lack of rain in which the our riverboat heading north stopped at Passau and could not continue because the Main river was too low.

Most Memorable Moment:

The coordination to transfer our cruise passengers to the Tauck boat that was traveling south with their passengers being bused to our boat was as smooth as one could make it. The boat heading south now traveled north and the one traveling north turned around and traveled south. The chef on the Esprit was outstanding!!

The change of ships due to the low water level of the Danube was annoying, but it proved to be a plus--a chance to drive by bus through the beautiful German agricultural countryside not visible from the Danube riverside. Every waterside and countryside view was magnificent, together with the luxury and comfort of both Treasures and Esprit.

This was our first river cruise on Tauck. We had sailed 3 times before on Uniworld. Upon arrival at the ship, no one greeted us, actually one of the officers saw us toting our bags. It was only when we finally got from the sidewalk on the dock to the gangplank that anyone sought to help. Not like Uniworld. See my review on Cruise Critic..

Most Memorable Moment:

The Night in Vienna was and probably will be the most spectacular evening we have ever had, or hope to have, on a tour or cruise. From the Chamber music w/champagne, to the opulent dining with now 8 member orch, male-female ballerinas, tenor, suprano, white glove service of the most delicious veal steak and schmankerl parfait Pallavicini. Hard to chose one "best moment". Would have to say the dinner at a Baroque palace in Vienna with an eight-piece orchestra, dancers, singers and wonderful food was the best. The organ concert in Passau of 15,000 pipes--you could hear a pin drop--was the best also.

We sailed from Budapest to Amsterdam on a small river boat, a dream of mine for several years. The trip met my expectations and more! Our day and evening in Vienna proved to be so wonderful that I still think it might have been a real dream. Sailing on the Danube, Main and Rhine and visiting each town (big and little) proved to be so much fun!

Most Memorable Moment:

There were many memorable moments. For us, the night in Vienna, the unplanned night visit in Koblenz and the wine tasting at the Park Residenz in Wurtzburg were highlights of our trip.

A high quality ship. Excellent cabins, itinerary, shore excursions and on-board entertainment. We liked that it was all inclusive. The Tour Directors were exceptional and engaging with a great depth of knowledge. Guests were predominantly from the USA and the tone established by the Cruise Director was mono-cultural rather than international.

Most Memorable Moment:

We thoroughly enjoyed the Gala Evening at Baroque Palais Ferstel. The musical interlude was wonderful and there is something special about being able to waltz in a Viennese palace.

The Tauck staff and ship crew crew all provided superb service with their professionalism, knowledge, and courtesy. The local guides were tops with expert knowledge. And of course all the food and beverages were outstanding.

Most Memorable Moment:

All of the experiences were truly memorable. The Vienna evening at the palace with gourmet dining and musical entertainment was one of many highlights. Also the wine tastings and beer tastings in Germany were very nice as was Tauck hosted lunches at several outstanding local restaurants allowing us to experience the local cuisine.

Most Memorable Moment:

Everything was first class: Most memorable... Was it the canal cruise through Amsterdam with that amazing meal on the first day of our cruise? or the elegant evening in Vienna with the orchestra, singers and ballet dancers? or all the history at the documentation center in Nuremburg? or... Too hard to choose, everything was amazing.

The small towns we stopped in were like traveling back in time. I expected a medieval section and a modern section in each town, but there was no modern parts, just like going back in time. The guides were excellent and the Tauck directors were wonderful. I would recommend this trip to everyone.

Most Memorable Moment:

I enjoyed the music museum and seeing the ancient buildings still standing and in use today. I also was enamored with the Nuremburg museum and the canals in Amsterdam. I was surprised to find that we had to go through 70 locks along the rivers, but they became oblivious to us after a while. I also enjoyed riding the cable cars.

We were a little worry to take our whole family of 6 on the recent River Cruise Trip from Budapest to Amsterdam because we have 2 young grand kids age 6 & 8, they're a little too young to mix with other peoples most are the senior guests on this ship, but they had a great time and everything work out perfect, for sure we will do it again in future

Most Memorable Moment:

The great crews on this ship, everyone tried so hard to please our grand kids to make sure we all enjoy our trip. All the on-shore tours are wonderful, not too heavy and just nice for all of us. As always, Tauck's tours are the best.

We just returned from Amsterdam-Budapest on the MS Espirit. Great crew on the ship, everyone we talked to noticed how great they all were. Cruise directors were also helpful and attentive. Boat is really clean and comfortable. Tauck takes care of all the details and we really enjoyed the tours. Coaches were clean and pleasant.

Most Memorable Moment:

Vienna event was memorable and more than expected. Also, just arriving at the beautiful towns and cruising and hearing about the history of castles with the commentary. Vienna the night tour on arrival was amazing also.

A Glorious Journey from Amsterdam to Budapest on the Swiss Jewel

Overall Rating: 1 2 3 4 5

Verified Review

Travel Date: May 2015

We chose this trip because of the wealth of river cruising hours (not too much time docked and visiting sites off-ship). It was fabulous – lots of spectacular river scenery, often complemented by live narration from one of our tour directors. Often, we delayed going to dinner in order to relax with a glass of wine on the top deck in the evening.

Most Memorable Moment:

We arrived at the harbor of Linz, Austria on a beautiful evening. An onboard string trio was performing for us. We could see that the buildings ashore were lit up with blue colored lights. The trio played the famous Blue Danube waltz, while these beautiful lights cast a stunning blue color onto the Danube waters that surrounded us. It was magic!

We were absolutely blown away by the quality of service, excellence of food and hospitality, in-depth tours and guides (who were always present with us to give us "loo" money, keep us secure, make sure everyone was accounted for....we could go on and on). After speaking w/others who traveled other cruiselines, they will be switching to Tauck.

The evening at the Vienna palace was like a fairy tale. Absolutely stunning, exquisite food, entertainment was outstanding. We also enjoyed the lunch at the small hillside village with impromptu band & dancing - so scenic.

This was our first trip with Tauck & hopefully not our last. Everything about our experience on the Swiss Jewel was first class. From boarding to departure it was a very smooth operation, no detail is overlooked and each guest is made to feel special and comfortable. The cabins are clean and comfortable, the meals & service consistently 1st class

Most Memorable Moment:

Simply enjoying a cocktail on the sundeck as the ship cruised through stunningly beautiful country was a real treat. Also, the all inclusive nature of the cruise is a key to total enjoyment.

TAUCK RESPONSE

We are so glad you enjoyed your first trip with Tauck! We strive to treat each guest as an individual and to provide unique experiences that you cannot get on your own. We hope to see you again on one of our journeys!

Amsterdam-Budapest, we had the foresight to visit the tulip fields before we boarded. The trips ashore at each and every port were well received by a couple of history buffs and the guides were always well informed-the small groupings and earphone systems worked very well. European gastronomy tours would be a good sub-title as the chef excelled.

Most Memorable Moment:

Vienna is a city of exceptional beauty and the Tauck exclusive dinner at the Palais Pallavicini was just a blast from the past- especially with the addition of chamber music and ballet dancers. A close second/third was the appreciation and majesty of the Rhine castles and the beauty of the Danube and fun experience of ducking the low bridges.

We are so glad you enjoyed our exclusive dinner at the Palais Pallavicini. Thank you for choosing Tauck!

We took the River Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on the Treasures. One of the key reasons for choosing Tauk was to ensure that we would not just sail through the countries, but have a chance to actually learn and walk in the historical places along the way. Tauk's well planned itinerary included in the opportunity to do this at no extra cost.

Most Memorable Moment:

The opportunity to tour the many sites with knowledgeable local guides. Each stop offered a unique learning experience with guides who were able to highlight the key events. Because of the way that Tauck structures their trips, an inexperienced traveler like myself could focus on the experience not how much I had to tip the guide, or bus driver.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that we had to abandon ship at Wurzburg due to high water levels in the Mein River. Otherwise this was a 5 star experience all the way. Beautiful stateroom with the best view ever - watching the river go by with magnificent castles, forts and cathedrals. The staff was terrific and handled the high water.

Most Memorable Moment:

There were many but the Abbey at Psau - the most magnificent building I have seen.

Our first trip with Tauck and was impressed. The Treasures is luxurious but not overdone. Had the largest room category and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was extremely clean and all the staff were friendly but professional. The food was very good even though breakfast & lunch were buffet style. Would definitely book again.

Most Memorable Moment:

Walking through the vineyards in Werzburg while climbing up to the fortress. Could see out over the entire town as the sun was burning off the fog. Also enjoyed walking through the cobblestone streets of Bamberg and Rothenberg.

The trip was wonderful, great entertainment, excellent food and friendly service. The only disappointment was missing the cruise on the Rhine--no fault of Tauck's! Our other Tauck trip was the French Escapade: Monte Carlo to Paris, in Oct.,'12--superb. Here is a link to my unique photos of that trip: www.harrisimages.com/RiverTrip/index.html

Most Memorable Moment:

In Amsterdam, the dinner canal cruise on the beautifully restored little boat, the Prins Van Oranje--a lovely surprise at the end of the trip. And our hotel De l'Europe, was outstanding! Tauck did a fantastic job of making our last experience very enjoyable. We look forward to our next Tauck trips and highly recommend them to our friends.

We loved how our MS Treasures silently slipping through the waters of the three rivers and provided stunningly beautiful riverside views both rural & urban. The itinerary, entertainment, food and staff were as good as we expected from Tauck & the guides were great, too. We especially loved the tastings & dining at the local taverns and restaurants.

Most Memorable Moment:

Every day seemed to out-do the previous! Outstanding was witnessing the light show in LInz and the beauty of Budapest, until this cruise, an unknown treasure for us. Also, just sitting on the sun deck each day and observing life along the banks of the rivers was so special and educational.

Thank you for the extra night you provide us "returning Tauck customers", the beautiful hotel(in the heart of Budapest) you set us up in. You are a top notch company. We also like very much how you hold our hands getting us from the airplane at the beginning to the airport at the end. We love, love the small groups, that will "always appeal" to us.

Most Memorable Moment:

We were most impressed with the great service...thank you for treated us so special, many times going out of your way, and always with a smile. The Captain's Farewell Dinner, wow. You made us all feel so special. You served us well. We loved every dinner...wine and dine us...wow! We loved the special "Tauck exclusives" you provide

This is our 4th Tauck trip in the last 14 months. We are looking forward to planning our next Tauck vacation. They think of everything so you can just relax & enjoy the trip! Go for It

Most Memorable Moment:

There were many on this trip! We visited Anne Frank's hiding place in Amsterdam, Zeppelin Feld in Nurnberg, Germany, Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, numerous cathedrals and lovely quaint villages. All had their own unique charm! The local guides were interesting and knowledgable.

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on your Amsterdam to Budapest Riverboat Tour. From start to end, our every need was cared for by your wonderful staff. They knew just how to pace the day to ensure that we saw the best of the beautiful cities and sites along the way and yet had time to relax. Can't wait for our next Tauck experience!

Most Memorable Moment:

Too many to list! We enjoyed meeting our fellow passengers. Had a lot in common with most of the people we met. Enjoyed being with them during the tours and sharing a glass of wine or beer in local taverns, or on the ship. Also loved just sitting in the lounge watching the castles and villages pass by as we glided down the Rhine, Main and Danube.

We were taken care of, in first rate fashion, from the first moment we were met at the airport until we were taken back to go home. Your staff is first rate. Smaller group was more intimate and friendly. The side trips were great. Food selection and quality was excellent. Rooms are comfortable, bathroom a little small. Travel very smooth.

Most Memorable Moment:

Sitting in a 12th Century building, eating same kind of food served then. Hearing the music of Vienna in that beautiful dinning room. Seeing those beautiful countries, in Autumn. The locks. Going to small towns.

When asked by friends how we liked our Tauck Budapest to Amsterdam River Boat Cruise, we simply find it almost impossible to describe this incredibly wonderful experience. Saying it was “Five Star”; “First Class”; “Culturally Enlightening” would be understatements. Tauck-Scylla-Europe are like a gourmet dinner being paired with a very fine wine!

Most Memorable Moment:

“Personable, Approachable and Unsurpassed Cruise Directors and Service Staff Were Always There to Assist”... would not be over stating the attributes of Tauck’s/Scylla Budapest - Amsterdam Riverboat Cruise. Scenic, cultural, architectural, artisan and historical elements along the Danube, Main and Rhine River make cruise the best travel experience

Being on the boat gave us the best views of the sceenery as you have unobstructed view of buildings, wildlife, people along the way. It was so nice to unpack once and be able to see new cities and high points everyday. Tour directors on board and the local tour guides were great. The food was exceptional and the crew made us feel welcome.

Most Memorable Moment:

Passing the part of the Rhine River seeing a castle every half mile. Charlie's (one of three on board tour director's) narration of each was so interesting and it made it clear that life in those times was hard and complicated. I got some wonderful pictures which would not have been possible from a car or on foot.

If you like reconstructed Medieval architecture this is the trip for you. For me it was boring, same thing day after day. 1 town, 1 palace, 1 cathedral would have been enough. I'd liked to have had time to explore Vienna and to see Frankfort even if only from the window of a bus. As a vet. of 8 Tauck tours: Trip C-, Guides C, Ship crew A+

Most Memorable Moment:

Amsterdam (had 1 extra day) canal boat history and architecture tour, guided museum tour, and time to explore and find the Museum of Purses and Handbags, (a little known treasure, don't miss it); the lecture on history of Slovakia (the kind of thing I expected more of on a Tauck tour); the boat crew all smiles and eagerness to please, stand out.

The ship Treasures is new and very well appointed and the crew and Tauck staff were so very helpful and pleasant with excellent food , accomodation and the abundent extras above what the broshure had promised was tremendous.A trip to remember.

River cruising on the Treasures was a well spent two weeks. The all-inclusive format was a real plus. Excellent town tours... well organized, wonderful tour guides, and small tour groups... and audio "voxes" worked great. Food for the most part was excellent with a nice selection of entrees at dinner.

Most Memorable Moment:

The transit through the 80 plus locks was memorable but the real plus was the morning and afternoon cruising through the valleys on the Danube.

We have been spoiled by Tauck. The crew on board Treasures was wonderful. Food good, accommodations were more than comfortable and the 110 volt line was an added plus. Tour director and guides made every bus ride and/or tour very special. Entertainment and on-board games were fun to participate in. We were taken care of from beginning to end.

Most Memorable Moment:

The dinner in the Palais Pallavicini in Vienna was over the top. An evening of good food, in one of the most beautiful rooms we had ever been in and entertained by world class dancers, musicians, and opera stars was simply the best. Were awed by the sheer beauty of the Abbey in Melk. It was a real highlight of the trip.

My mother said buy the best quality you can afford, because you” get what you pay for”. Tauck is an exception because we feel we got so more value than expected. The cruise director and tour directors were all warm, caring and personable. The local guides in each port were knowledgeable, understandable (spoke excellent English) and entertaining.

Most Memorable Moment:

There were so many special events from dinners in local restaurants, wine tastings and my favorite, dinner in a palace with the symphony, ballet and opera singers performing. Any changes in itinerary due to water level conditions generated such surprises as a concert at a cathedral that boasts the largest pipe organ in all of Europe.

Our Cruise director, Lynn, grew up in Connecticut and she sounds just like her Connecticut neighbor – Martha Stewart. We learned a little about Lynn’s extensive knowledge of geography, culture, entertainment, and cuisine; but most of all we observed that she was tireless in her efforts to accommodate all the needs of the guests.

Most Memorable Moment:

Most of our two weeks were spent enjoying the careful planning and execution that resulted from what we have come to know as “Tauck excellence”. As we look back, what we paid was a bargain compared to the “lifetime memories” we received. But the evening in Vienna was the best of the best!
