Tauck and BBC Earth Offering New Dinosaur-Themed Family Trip in 2014

Five-Day “Walking With Dinosaurs: A Journey Through Time” Trip Builds
On Excitement For “Walking With Dinosaurs” 3D Film Debuting This Month

NORWALK, CT (December 3, 2013)  With the theatrical release of the new $85 million, 3D motion picture Walking With Dinosaurs set for later this month, dinosaur fever will be running rampant among children throughout the coming year.  Now parents looking to foster their children’s interest in science can take advantage of the perfect vacation package for budding young paleontologists – an all-inclusive, five-day exploration of all things dinosaur co-crafted by Tauck, the 88-year-old leader in guided luxury travel, and the filmmakers at BBC Earth.

The one-time, five-day event, “Walking With Dinosaurs: A Journey Through Time,” is scheduled for next July 17-21 in and around Calgary, Alberta; an area home to some of the planet’s richest fossil beds and one of the world’s most comprehensive dinosaur museums.  The dinosaur event is the first all-new travel experience resulting from Tauck’s just-announced “Earth Journeys” partnership with BBC Earth and will draw on the expertise behind the original BBC television series Walking with Dinosaurs that inspired a generation with a fascination for dinosaurs reaching a global audience of over 700 million. The BBC is also responsible for groundbreaking natural history documentaries including Planet Earth, Frozen Planet, Life and The Blue Planet.

“Our partnership with Tauck has provided us with the perfect opportunity to create a unique trip that will give people the chance to travel to amazing places where the dinosaurs once roamed. This trip is perfect for families and with the 3D movie Walking with Dinosaurs giving a new generation the chance to experience and discover these amazing pre-historic creatures, we are certain that this will be a trip that people will never forget,” says Soumya Sriraman, EVP Home Entertainment and Licensing for BBC Worldwide North America.

According to Tauck CEO Dan Mahar, BBC Earth is the perfect partner to help create a dinosaur-themed travel experience.  “BBC Earth has already reached over 700 million people who share a fascination with dinosaurs, through projects including the BBC Walking With Dinosaurs television series and the Walking with Dinosaurs arena spectacular,” said Mahar.  “The debut of the new 3D Walking with Dinosaurs movie this month will underscore BBC Earth’s pioneering role in using creative storytelling to bring the dinosaur era into modern popular culture.  In much the same way, BBC Earth and Tauck will make the stories of dinosaurs real, compelling and enriching for families traveling with us to Calgary.”

Guests attending the Tauck dinosaur event will be divided into small groups of 30 to 35 people for daily themed sightseeing “tracks,” ensuring an intimate, interactive experience.  Different groups will experience these tracks on different days over the course of the event, ensuring all attendees enjoy the same overall experience.

Sightseeing tracks will include “In the Footsteps of Dinosaurs,” featuring a paleontologist-guided exploration of Dinosaur Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where over 40 different dinosaur species have been discovered and more than 150 complete dinosaur skeletons have been unearthed.  A second track, “Through the Eyes of Dinosaur Experts” will include a paleontologist-led exploration of Alberta’s fossil-rich Badlands and a trip to the renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum, one of the world’s foremost paleontology museums and home to 140,000 individual specimens.  A third track, “A Day With BBC Earth,” will allow guests to step into the world of BBC Earth experts, and discover the science and creative artistry that combine to make BBC Earth’s natural world programming so informative and entertaining.

Each night all guests will gather for special dinners, entertainment and other unique “insider” experiences, including exclusive evenings at the Calgary Zoo, the TELUS-Spark Science Centre, the rooftop Devonian Gardens (one of the world’s largest indoor gardens), and the Gasoline Alley Museum at the Heritage Park Historical Village.

Throughout the event guests will benefit from the insights and knowledge shared by a specially selected team of paleontologists and other experts including Dr. Stephen Brusatte, a University of Edinburgh paleontologist who has written over 60 scientific papers and published four books.  Mike Gunton, Creative Director, Factual BBC Worldwide and BBC Natural History Unit and a U.K.-based television producer will also be on hand. Gunton has worked as a wildlife filmmaker for over 25 years, producing some of the best wildlife television in the world. He was the executive producer behind many landmark BBC Earth series, including Africa, Life and Madagascar, for which he won critical acclaim.

Prices are from $3,190 per person (double occupancy) plus airfare.  This fully-inclusive event has virtually everything built into the price, including all entertainment, sightseeing and other activities, admission to all attractions, all gratuities, all ground transportation (including Calgary airport transfers), most meals, and much more.  Also included are accommodations at the four diamond-rated Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire.  Particularly well-suited to hosting families with children, the Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire is an all-suites property featuring a heated indoor pool complete with a 50-foot waterslide.
