Ken Burns and Tauck to Explore Prohibition, Frank Lloyd Wright and Jazz at Five-Day Tauck Chicago Event

Award-Winning Burns Documentary “Prohibition” to Re-Air Beginning Dec. 15

NORWALK, CT (November 23, 2015)  With Ken Burns’s award-winning documentary “Prohibition” set to re-air on PBS in mid-December, Tauck has announced that it will again team with the filmmaker to offer a special five-day, in-depth event in Chicago that explores the Prohibition era as well as the subjects of two additional Burns films; “Frank Lloyd Wright” and “Jazz.”

“Prohibition” is a three-part, five-and-a-half-hour documentary series that will be rebroadcast by PBS over three consecutive Tuesday nights, December 15, 22 and 29, and the film’s theme will be a central pillar of the five-day event hosted next year (September 19-23) by Tauck and Ken Burns.  Burns himself will share his own thoughts and insights as he delivers the event’s keynote speech, and will afterward mingle with Tauck guests at a special dessert reception during a private evening at the iconic Chicago Theatre.  Guests will also attend a presentation on Prohibition and Al Capone by Jonathan Eig, author of “Get Capone,” they’ll learn how to make classic Prohibition-era cocktails, and they’ll raise a glass or two during a festive Prohibition Repeal Celebration featuring cocktails and music from the era, along with dinner in the lavish Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Chicago.

A themed half-day sightseeing excursion, “Beer Wars: The Roaring Twenties,” will also visit a number of locations across Chicago that tell the story of Prohibition and the worlds of organized crime and gangsters it helped spawn.  Guests will travel to the city’s West Side to explore Pilsen, a Czech neighborhood that helped popularize beer in America.  In the North Side, they’ll visit Clark Street, site of the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and they’ll travel to the Biograph Theatre, a movie house associated with the death of John Dillinger, before visiting one of Chicago’s Prohibition-era speakeasies.

EXPLORING THE WORLD’S OF  FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT AND JAZZ
“Beer Wars: The Roaring Twenties” is one of several themed, daily sightseeing “tracks” featured during The Tauck Chicago Event.  At the beginning of the event, attendees (capacity is limited to 200 guests) will divide into small groups of approximately 35 people to experience these tracks on a rotating basis.  Over the course of the event, each group will travel on all of the tracks to thus provide all attendees with the same cumulative experience.

Another sightseeing track, “Architecture that Shaped the City,” will travel to the village of Oak Park where guests will explore the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright during visits to his home and studio, and be treated to a presentation by Chicago Cultural Historian Tim Samuelson.  A third track, “The Most American of Cities,” travels with local experts to explore the diverse influences that have shaped Chicago’s historical and cultural life, and includes visits to Jazz-age sites, a private cruise along the Chicago River, and an examination of Chicago’s Art Deco architecture.  In the evening, all guests will convene for special shared experiences including a welcome reception and dinner inside the Chicago History Museum, the keynote address by Ken Burns at the Chicago Theatre, and the final night’s Prohibition Repeal Celebration.

Included in the price (from $4,680 per person, double occupancy, plus air) are four nights’ accommodations at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile, all daily sightseeing tracks and gala evening events, most meals, all gratuities, airport transfers, luggage handling, and much more.  Those interested in more information can contact their local travel professional, call Tauck at 800 468 2825, or visit the company’s website at www.tauck.com.
