Tauck Provides $50,000 In Grants To Mark Twain House & Museum And Harriet Beecher Stowe Center

Norwalk-Based Travel Company to Feature Both Sites on Tour of New England

NORWALK, CT (January 25, 2013)  Tauck, the Norwalk, CT-based leader in guided luxury tours and cruises, has provided $25,000 grants to both the Mark Twain House & Museum and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center.  The grants are part of Tauck’s “World of Giving” corporate philanthropy initiative, and follow the company’s announcement last fall that it would be including both locations on a revised tour of New England it has designed with the award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns.

“Throughout our 88-year history, we’ve recognized the importance of ‘giving back’ to the places we visit on our journeys,” said Tauck President Jennifer Tombaugh.  “The Mark Twain House & Museum and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center feature prominently in our new ‘Hidden Gems of New England’ tour, and they’re both true cultural gems that are deserving of our support.”  The Tauck grants will be used to help fund an upcoming special exhibition highlighting the Gilded Age at the Mark Twain House & Museum, and to help underwrite a comprehensive redesign of the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center’s website.

Representatives from the Mark Twain House & Museum and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center expressed their gratitude for Tauck’s support.  “We were thrilled when Tauck and Ken Burns decided to include us on their New England tour,” said Patti Philippon, Interim Executive Director of the Mark Twain House & Museum. “To also receive this grant from Tauck is icing on the cake.  It’s incredible.”  Katherine Kane, Executive Director of the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center was equally pleased.  “Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mark Twain were leading voices of their time,” said Kane.  “Their work still has profound meaning for us today, and Tauck’s generosity will help ensure that Stowe’s and Twain’s voices continue to be heard.”

Tauck has a long history of supporting national parks, cultural sites and historic locations, ranging from Grand Teton National Park to Plimoth Plantation, and from Ellis Island to Boston’s Old North Church.  The company also promotes volunteerism among its employees, and with its guests through a National Parks program that has been honored by both the White House and the U.S. Interior Department.

Tauck’s Destination Grants program (through which the two grants announced today were awarded) is part of the company’s larger “World of Giving” corporate philanthropy initiative.  The Destination Grants program funds efforts focusing on the conservation or cultural/historical preservation of places around the world where Tauck brings its guests.  The grants are intended to enhance the places Tauck visits, show support for their communities, and make sure those places are available for future generations to experience.
