Exclusive Bracebridge Dinner to Highlight Tauck’s New 2014 Winter Event in Yosemite

Tauck Guests To Enjoy 97-Year-Old Holiday Tradition During Six-Day Event

NORWALK, CT (November 21, 2013)  Each December for over 90 years, the grand main dining room at the iconic Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park has been transformed into a 17th-century English manor for the venerated Bracebridge Dinner, a revered yet irreverent holiday tradition replete with a sumptuous seven-course dinner and a four-hour pageant of medieval entertainment and classic carols performed by a cast of over 100.  And while tickets for this annual extravaganza are notoriously difficult to obtain, Tauck will be featuring the Bracebridge Dinner as the centerpiece of its new six-day event celebrating Yosemite’s 150th anniversary in 2014.

“The Tauck Yosemite Event” will operate from December 13 – 18, 2014, and it is being co-crafted by Tauck and U.S. National Parks expert Dayton Duncan.  Ken Burns’s longtime collaborator, Duncan served as the writer and co-producer of the Emmy Award-winning Burns film, “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.”  Duncan will also attend the event personally and deliver its keynote address celebrating Yosemite’s history “From Tiny Seed to Mighty Sequoia.”

The Tauck event begins with a two-night stay in San Francisco at The St. Regis, highlighted by city sightseeing and a guided excursion to the ancient coastal redwood forest at nearby Muir Woods.  Exclusive presentations in San Francisco will include Duncan’s keynote address as well as a discussion by Corry Keller, Photography Curator for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.  Keller will explore the city’s devastating 1906 earthquake and subsequent fire – among the first large-scale natural disasters in America captured by cameras – and how photography shaped the way these tragic events were perceived.

Guests then travel on a scenic rail journey through California’s Central Valley to Yosemite National Park for a two-night stay at The Ahwahnee Hotel, where they will enjoy a holiday concert in the hotel’s Great Lounge on their first evening in the park.  The following day guests will attend a special morning presentation by Michael Adams, son of photographer Ansel Adams whose work immortalized Yosemite and other U.S. National Parks (and who helped stage the Bracebridge Dinner for many years).  Guests will also enjoy a guided tour of some of Yosemite’s most famous sites, and have some time for independent exploration, before gathering that evening for the black-tie Bracebridge Dinner celebration.

The following day guests will attend an interpretive presentation by actor Lee Stetson in the role of naturalist and Sierra Club founder John Muir, before departing Yosemite and learning more about the region’s history and culture on a trip aboard a steam train, during discussions about the Gold Rush era, and while exploring the area’s frequent use as a filming location for popular movies and television shows.  Before a final overnight at The St. Regis San Francisco, guests will conclude their journey in style with a farewell reception and dinner at the acclaimed de Young Museum.  Located in Golden Gate National Park and dating back to 1894, the de Young is one of the foremost art museums in the western U.S.

Attendance at “The Tauck Yosemite Event” is limited to 170 guests, and built into the fully-inclusive pricing (from $5,690 per person, double occupancy, plus airfare) are most meals (including the Bracebridge Dinner), all sightseeing, all lectures and entertainment, all ground transportation including airport transfers, all gratuities, luggage handling and much more.
