Tauck Employees Assemble 3,000+ Food Packs for Local Kids

Wilton-Based Travel Company Teams with Connecticut Food Bank to Provide Weekend Meals to Disadvantaged Area Children

WILTON, CT (October 27, 2017)  Nearly 200 Tauck employees joined forces with the Connecticut Food Bank on Monday and Tuesday of this week to assemble more than 3,000 packs of nutritious foods for low-income school children in the area.  The completed packs each contain staple food supplies - dried pasta, pasta sauce, apple sauce, milk and cereal – and they will be distributed to local school children on Fridays, to ensure they and their families have enough to eat on weekends when school-based food programs don’t operate and children face an increased risk of hunger.

Tauck’s volunteer effort supports the Connecticut Food Bank Kids’ BackPack Program.  According to Bernie Beaudreau, CEO at the Connecticut Food Bank, the assistance provided by Tauck’s employees represents a critical element in the program.  “We work with a number of generous organizations that help us provide the food we distribute through the Kids’ BackPack Program,” said Beaudreau.  “However, it’s a labor-intensive process to assemble the different items into the packs that we distribute to kids on Fridays.  We truly appreciate the efforts made by Tauck and its employees.”

Tauck began loading 45 pallets of food into its corporate cafeteria late last week, and working in shifts on Monday and Tuesday, 180 employees assembled and sealed over 3,000 food packages that filled more than 500 boxes.  Expenses for the two-day project (including all food costs) were underwritten by Tauck.

Roni Goldberg, Manger of Impact, Tauck’s corporate giving initiative, noted that working with the Connecticut Food Bank is entirely consistent with the company’s core values.  “For 92 years, Tauck has been dedicated to enhancing our guests’ lives through travel,” said Goldberg.  “We’re also dedicated to enriching our employees’ lives through employment, career advancement, wellness programs and philanthropic opportunities, as well as enhancing the lives of those in our community by working closely with key partners.”

Tauck partners with more than 20 local agencies and non-profit groups that work in the surrounding community.  In addition, the company funds and operates its Sparks program that brings inner-city children from the Stamford and Bridgeport areas on educational trips through New England and the mid-Atlantic/Washington, DC regions.  Tauck is also active in supporting many of the places it travels, particularly the U.S. National Parks.  The company has been bringing travelers to the parks since its very first tour in 1925.

The Connecticut Food Bank works through a network of food aid partners and programs to serve local adults and children.  Last year the organization distributed enough food to provide more than 21 million meals to people in the six Connecticut counties it serves.  According to the food bank, hunger affects the health and education of more than 127,000 children throughout Connecticut.

Tauck is a world-leader in premium quality guided travel, with over 100 inspiring land and cruise itineraries to some 70 countries and all seven continents.  Besides being named to Travel + Leisure magazine’s annual list of the “World’s Best Tour Operators & Safari Outfitters” for 18 consecutive years, the company has more recently been named to the magazine’s list of the “World’s Best River Cruise Lines” for eight years running.
